The new Mesa biome in Peak features new monsters and events, such as the Antlion Trap, Tornado, Scorpions, and Mirage Trap, that can potentially kill you. Here are more details about the update’s newest dangers and how you can avoid them.
Antion Trap
The trap is usually marked by a chest in the middle of a sand pit. Getting too close to the chest will cause the Antlion to appear and the sand pit to start pulling anyone standing within it. Touching the Antlion deals damage and can kill you.
🐜 Note: It's possible to climb out of the sand pit, but this requires burning a lot of reserve stamina. Always have a friend nearby to help pull you back up by using the Help action.
Tornado
A sand tornado will occasionally spawn within the Mesa biome. Getting sucked into the Tornado will fling you up in the air uncontrollably and can kill you via fall damage. You'll need a Parasol to survive a Tornado, as it can slow your descent and mitigate any damage you might take.
Scorpions
These are found exclusively in the Mesa biome and are fairly small. However, if you get too close or pick it up, it can sting you and cut down your stamina meter by more than half. You can potentially cook them safely by detonating them with Dynamite, but it's usually not worth it.
🦂 Note: Make sure to have an Antidote, Remedy Fungus, or Cure-All in your inventory when traversing the Mesa, as getting poisoned can end your run.
Mirage
Mirages come in the form of loot chests in the Mesa, but these are just as dangerous as the Antlion Trap. These are trickier to spot since they look like regular chests out in the open and have less obvious signs of danger. Getting too close will reveal a Tornado, so treat every chest you see in the Mesa as a potential Mirage and approach slowly.
