Black Myth: Wukong Armor Upgrades: How to Unlock

Black Myth: Wukong Armor Upgrades: How to Unlock

Souls-like games always encourage players to upgrade their armor and weapons to take on more powerful enemies more efficiently. Black Myth: Wukong also applies the same principle, but it does put a twist on how gamers can enhance their sets. Players can upgrade their armor and weapons once they complete certain conditions. Fortunately, it's easy to satisfy these things.

Black Myth: Wukong Upgrades

Crafting and upgrading armor pieces are two separate actions. You can craft your set in any location, but upgrading can only be done in a specific area. You can upgrade these things until you reach a particular tier and need certain materials. However, you must fulfill certain conditions before accessing the Blacksmith in the game.

How to Unlock Armor Pieces Upgrade

Most Souls games will direct you on how to find or unlock armor upgrades in their game, but Black Myth: Wukong hides this feature via one of its side quests. You can easily miss out on this essential mechanic if you aren't an explorer or only focus on the grind and main quests. Fortunately, the side mission is relatively easy to discover and can be done early in Chapter 3.

You can discover the side-quest after you defeat Kang-Jin Star in Chapter 3 — The New West, who is the first central boss of this area. After accomplishing this feat, Bajie will bring you to the island's southern side, where you’ll be prompted to head north to reach your next objective. However, it would help if you headed west while traveling along the shores to unlock the Armor Upgrades.

Eventually, you’ll encounter a Drake-like humanoid named Chen Loong, who you must fight to proceed. Once you finish this task, he’ll ask you to deliver an artifact to the Fox Merchant, who you met in Chapter 2, near the Cellar Keeper's Shrine. Upon completing this task, you can go back to Chen Loong, and he’ll provide you a map that can take you to a Roundtable of merchants, our version of Elden Ring's Roundtable Hold. You can access this area anytime, as it’s entirely separate from the rest of the game's map.

In this area, you can meet Yin Tiger, the Blacksmith. You can upgrade your armor and weapons here. You can also purchase rare crafting resources from Yin Tiger, which is especially helpful if you’re just a few stacks away from an enhancement. There is an option to challenge the Blacksmith, which will prompt you to a friendly duel with him.

After you defeat Yin Tiger, he’ll give you the Ebon Flow spell. This transformation spell allows you to turn into a tiger like the Blacksmith. On top of this, you also gain an additional Curio slot as an extra reward.

What Pieces Can You Upgrade in Black Myth: Wukong

You can collect up to four distinct armor pieces in Black Myth: Wukong — Helms, Chest Armor, Leg Armor, and Gauntlets. Each of these has varying stats and features different protective abilities. You can upgrade all these pieces to Mythical rank once you unlock Yin Tiger. We advise players to focus on collecting and upgrading pieces that belong to the same set because it provides additional bonuses.

You can craft these armor sets anywhere if you unlock their recipe. However, they’ll need different resources to create varying quantities. Most of these sets have a 2-piece and 4-piece effect activation, so if you prefer to use only some of the armor, you can go for a hybrid build that utilizes two 2-set Effects of different pieces. If you lack the ingredients to craft an armor you like, you can always check in with Yin Tiger to see if he sells any needed material.
