Having a good place to set your base does wonders for resource gathering, terrain leveling, and even the overall aesthetic, making your home look beautiful. This list will give you all the ideal areas to set up your base in for the absolute best experience in the Lost Colony expansion of ARK: Survival Ascended.
Top 10 Base Locations
#1: The Starting Area
- Coordinates: Latitude 95, Longitude 6.4
The spawn area for your survivor starts as a good place to build your base, as not only is it warm enough to stave off the chill, but it is the safest area in the game and has abundant basic resources. The area also has a lake for fishing and enough open space to expand your base’s functions.
#2: Secluded Springs
- Coordinates: Latitude 90, Longitude 4.3
The Secluded Springs is also another warm spot on the map for avoiding freezing to death. This place is close to the starting area and also features a lake to fish, open space, plentiful basic resources, and a beautiful biome to spice up the look of your place.
#3: Mountain Bridge
- Coordinates: Latitude 26.1, Longitude 17.5
Up in the north, on the mountain, there is a large bridge that serves as a great staging ground for gathering endgame resources. The area is notable for its large metal deposits and wood near the bridge, allowing you to craft high-end gear and prepare for the endgame. While reaching the mountainside can be a trek, the Mountain Bridge is ideal for creating a mining base.
#4: The Ruins
- Coordinates: Latitude 99.4, Longitude 81.7
The Ruins, at the southernmost edge of the map, is home to an infected area that spawns Revenants, but can also spawn Gloons, which can be tamed into a tool that fires a frenzying laser. The area also has a few walls that can be built around, saving you on building resources.
#5: Restbite Cave
- Coordinates: Latitude 82.8, Longitude 75
This cave is right next to the Ruins location and is insulated, allowing you to stay warm. It also features more ruins with even ground. The cave is part of a larger tunnel network that features multiple exits that cover a lot of ground.
#6: Plains Lake
- Coordinates: Latitude 69, Longitude 4.7
The islet at the Plains Lake location is a perfect flat area for setting up your base and a prime spot for fishing. While the area lacks advanced resources, it has plenty of stone and forests for the basic resources you need. The local animals are also fairly harmless and can be a good source of food for your base.
#7: Searchlight Tower
- Coordinates: Latitude 44. Longitude 64.3
Within the Lost King’s area is a tower that has a massive open space at the top, perfect for staging an outpost for fighting the Lost King. Since the location is high up, you can use this area to store your flying mounts. If you’re in good standing with the Lost King, the area can be fairly safe, but if not, reaching it may require you to be suitably geared.
#8: Outlook Tower
- Coordinates: Latitude 80, Longitude 41.1
The tower is not only an important story location but also a pre-built structure that makes it the most versatile building location, giving you more than enough space to build horizontally or vertically up the tower.
#9: Borderland Outpost
- Coordinates: Latitude 50.2, Longitude 93.2
This location is a small, abandoned town with intact buildings, providing more than enough space to set up a base for the late game. The Borderland Outpost also features a tunnel that provides direct access to the Lost King’s city, which can be a great staging ground for defeating him once you’re prepared.
#10: Central Valley
- Coordinates: Latitude 64.8, Longitude 27
The Central Valley is the most resource-abundant zone in Lost Colony, featuring a river, plenty of trees, stone, minerals, and fauna for you to tame or hunt. Since this area is situated right in the middle of the map, most areas in the game are fairly accessible and are very easy to reach.
