Everything You Need to Know About Spectre Divide

After months of beta testing, Spectre Divide has been officially released. With the game being backed by well-renowned esports veteran turned streamer Shroud, and other content creators, Spectre Divide has gained popularity in the community for its refreshing take on the FPS genre. For those intrigued about the game, here's everything you need to know about Spectre Divide.

What is Spectre Divide?

Spectre is a free-to-play 3v3 tactical FPS game made by indie developers Mountaintop Studios. Unlike its counterparts, this tactical shooter only has 6 players in a match due to its unique game mechanic, Duality. This game mechanic allows players to control another character, their Spectre. Making the game a 6v6 if the Spectres are included. Aside from their Spectres, players can also pick Sponsors, which are abilities to be used to enter or defend sites to win rounds. With Duality, players will have to be creative in how they use their Spectres and Sponsors, providing a breath of fresh air in the tactical shooter genre.

What Is Duality?

As mentioned, Duality is Spectre Divide's unique game mechanic that allows you to control your Spectre, a separate character that you can swap to and use to move around the map, shoot opponents, or even plant or defuse bombs, depending on the situation.

At the start of the round, you spawn at your base. Using the minimap, you can choose where to place your Spectre on your side of the map. You can switch around from either your player or Spectre during the buy phase of the round. If you opt not to deploy your Spectre at the buy phase of the round, you can throw a puck that contains your Spectre and place it anywhere near you.

When you switch to your Spectre or the other way around, there’ll be Recall Lines present, showing your team and your enemies where you and your Spectre are located. You might think that it's going to be dangerous leaving your Spectre alone on the other side of the map, but don't worry; the Spectre has an alarm that will notify you if there's an enemy nearby. As long as it's not slow walking, the Spectre will detect it.

Your Spectre can also be used as a movement tool. Since throwing your Spectre puck won’t make any noise, you can toss it anywhere you can reach and switch to your Spectre for faster and silent movement across the map. If you're close to your Spectre, the enemy will probably not see your Recall Line. Utilize your Sponsor with Spectre, and it’ll be even harder for the enemy to spot or take you down.

What Are Sponsors in Spectre Divide?

Sponsors are the game's classes and abilities. Each Sponsor has various items and tools to help you and your Spectre detect enemies, enter the site, or protect your team. There are 8 Sponsors in the game that you can unlock through Endorsements. Players will need to play matches to complete their Endorsements and unlock their Sponsors. Each Sponsor is unique and plays different roles when used in a match. There are 4 classes for the Sponsors. Here’s all the classes and a summary of what each Sponsor can do.

Assault

Assault Sponsors are great for players who want to take space, assist in gaining more frags, and force enemies to be pushed in an encounter where your team is at an advantage. These Sponsors are easy to understand and use items like other shooters have. It’s also a great Sponsor to choose when you want to enter and clear a site for your team. Take note that Spectre Divide doesn't have any ultimate abilities for the Sponsor kits, making players rely more on getting frags and utilizing the Spectres. The Sponsor's abilities are there to be used as tools to assist you in the matches.

How Does Gunplay Work in Spectre Divide?

Gunplay for Spectre Divide is similar to other tactical shooters. During the buy phase, you can purchase shields, Sponsor Abilities, and your weapons. For the first round of the match, you’ll be able to choose from 3 options of sidearms, and as the rounds continue and you get more money , you can upgrade your loadout in the buy phase. When you buy guns for yourself, you’re also buying your Spectre a weapon, so take note of that when you're earning for your loadout.

The buy phase has tiers for each type of weapon. For Tier 1, you can pick SMGs, Shotguns, Pistols, or Sniper that are in the $900 to $1,200 range. In Tier 2, you can pick SMGs, Snipers, or Burst ARs, that are in the $1,500 to $1,700 range. In Tier 3, you can choose ARs, Shotguns, or Machine Guns, ranging from $2,300 to $2,500. For Tier 4, you can pick Machine Guns or ARs, ranging from $1,900 to $2,200. Lastly, In Tier 5, you can choose from a Sniper and pick an assisting weapon such as an SMG, Shotgun, or AR. You can choose stronger guns for yourself and your Spectre as the Tiers go higher.

In the buy phase, you can also use the quick access buy option, which provides you with two guns, shields, and your abilities. For players who don't want to focus too much time on choosing weapons, this option gives you a quick pick, allowing you to head straight to the site to prepare for your Spectre and abilities. If you don't have money to buy a gun for yourself and your Spectre, ask a teammate to spot you for one gun, and you can pay for the other.

The gun accuracy in Spectre Divide is different from that of its counterparts. Spectre Divide does not reduce your accuracy when moving. It even encourages you to use your ADS when shooting. So, you don't have to worry about losing accuracy when trying to move in the game. The only time you’ll lose accuracy when moving is when you use a Sniper.

Customize Your Spectre

Spectre Divide allows you to customize your player and Spectre to match your aesthetics and tastes. The character customization in Spectre Divide is detailed, allowing you to customize your character's hair, face, skin color, and voice. Not only that, but you can also customize their fits by giving armor or making them wear masks. Take note that your character and your Spectre cannot look the same. The game will warn you if your character and Spectre look alike. You can get more items to customize your character and Spectre in the game's shop.

Spectre Divide has a unique mechanic that encourages players to be creative in their playstyle and their tactics to win a round. The game will give players a refreshing take on the FPS genre and absolutelt stands out from its counterparts.
