Mythic+ Raids are just around the corner, and we’ve got a lot of learning and gearing up to catch up on before we can reach the pinnacle of M+ raids. Tanks have seen some changes in the current meta as many talents and traits were changed before the release of World of Warcraft's The War Within. While you can always play whichever frontline class you want, some parties tend to trust meta choices more quickly. If you want to use the ideal tanks to make queues faster, here are the best ones.
Note: The tier list reflects how well a class works in general. However, any tank would suffice in any Mythic+ raid as long the one using them knows how to play them. It's always advisable to choose the better player over a meta-tank user.
S Tier
Guardian Druid
Guardian Druid became one of the best tanks for TWW after it received much-needed changes. While we mainly want this class as our tanks because of their many practical utilities, this job became more highly sought after due to their updated DPS value, which gives them a substantial single-target damage boost. They’ve got great offense and defense abilities, which makes them a well-rounded class.
Protection Warrior
Protection Warrior has one of the best raid buff cooldowns in WoW, which catapults the class to S-Tier. Rallying Cry is one of the best non-healer defensive CDs that can be popped during crucial moments. The class itself has strong DPS and decent defensive CDs. They also have other buff skills that enhance their party, making Protection Warriors a great tank.
A Tier
Protection Paladin
Protec Paladin has fallen off due to the need to choose between excelling on offense or defense, and you can’t do both simultaneously. However, their ability to swap between these two playstyles makes them more flexible than other tanks. They have a lot of proper defensive cooldowns and strong DPS skills. They also have many auras and other tricks that provide buff and protection to their team, further showing their strength in a raid. The only issue with this class is that players need a good understanding of the class to shine and effectively use their kit.
Blood Death Knight
Blood DK is one of the tankiest classes in the game, as their kit revolves around beefing up their durability and HP. They also have tons of sustainability and crowd control, making them self-sufficient in most situations. Despite its extreme tankiness and utility usage, their poor DPS ranks them much lower than those in the S Tier. However, since a tank's job is mainly to pull and aggro enemies, parties won't mind if you don't put in much damage as long as you can flawlessly execute mechanics.
B Tier
Brewmaster Monk
Brewmaster Monk has one of the higher DPS scaling’s among the tanks in The World Within, but they suffer from infrequent defensive abilities. They have a lot of utilities to maintain mob aggro and buff the party, but they need to position themselves well and manage their resources to be more effective. They’re also harder to play due to how well you need to manage your cooldowns and ability usage. If not, you’ll be messing up your combinations.
Vengeance Demon Hunter
Vengeance DH is another tank class that provides great damage buffs to the whole party and other utilities. However, it also needs to improve with Brewmaster Monks as they need more frequent defensive CDs. This class shines intensely when paired with high-DPS courses due to how much they can augment their damage output. This job requires good positioning and careful mob pulling to be a very effective tank.
