Tol Barad serves as the primary Battleground and PvP area of WoW Cata Classic, wherein players can engage in PvP and PvE activities. However, gamers will have to focus on taking control of the region for their factions first before they can enjoy all the benefits Tol Barad has to offer. Claiming the zone for either side opens up opportunities like raids, profitable gathering routes, and area access. If you aren’t sure what to do in this Battleground, this Tol Barad PvP Guide will help you get started.

Tol Barad Overview

Tol Barad is a vast zone that hosts one large-scale event: Battleground fights. BG events are 80 vs. 80 modes in which Alliance and Horde players fight over control of Tol Barad. The battle occurs every two hours and thirty minutes, so attacking factions will have more than enough chances to wrestle Tol Barad away from the current defending side.

Winning the Battleground battle grants you access to Baradin Hold, a raid instance only available to the defending Faction. It provides a variety of sets that are good for PvP and PvE, which is the main reason people want to maintain control of Tol Barad. You can also do zone-specific daily quests that help you earn reputation and currency, granting you access to better items and sets. Aside from these, you can also go around the territory to farm herbs, mine nodes, and skin creatures for your professions. Here’s everything you can gather from this area:

  • Cinderbloom
  • Cursed Shackle Containers
  • Elementium Vein
  • Rich Elementium Vein
  • Rich Pyrite Deposit
  • Whiptail

Tol Barad Battleground Event

The Battleground event spans from 15 minutes to more than two hours, depending on how determined both sides are. The initial timer only shows 15 minutes, but it will gain five-minute extensions every time a tower is destroyed. The whole objective of the fight is to wrestle or maintain control of three buildings, which makes Tol Barad Battleground a capture-the-point event. The attacking Faction needs to take control of all three POIs, while the defending one needs to maintain their hold until the timer runs out.

Throughout each battle, specific locations will be defended by Towers, which serve as the primary obstacles in each fight. Attacking factions can destroy these structures by activating Abandoned Siege Engines and bringing them into an effective range. Unlike previous battlegrounds, these war machines cannot attack while someone is driving them. Instead, players must get them to a certain distance and dismount so the vehicle will turn into an automatic cannon. Defenders must remove these machines to prevent them from damaging their towers significantly.

How to Capture Points in the Tol Barad Battleground

Players must stand near the buildings and fill in a meter indicating if they captured them. You don’t need to destroy the three towers guarding each objective, but doing so will increase the pressure on the defenders and your timer. You should note that dying on the point gives an advantage to the other side because it will move the meter slightly in favor of them. Successfully capturing a building requires you to maintain your presence while not dying. You also want to kill as many enemy players as possible to increase the meter faster.

Defenders don’t need to do much aside from preventing enemies from getting on the point. Your primary target would be the War Machines trying to destroy allied towers. However, it’s best to just stay in place and defend the tower from within since your spawn point upon death is much farther than the attacking sides.  .

Note: It’s common knowledge that Defenders lose more often than Attackers. It’s been surmised that the Battleground was designed to give an advantage to the invading Faction so they can get a turn in Tol Barad. It might be best to skip out on the event if you are on the defending side and focus on other things.

Rewards for Taking Control of Tol Barad

Once your Faction takes control of Tol Barad, you will have 2 hours and 30 minutes to enjoy its benefits. Most players will try to run the Baradin Hold raid once they’ve completed all the dailies. Players should note that winning the Battleground event also auto-completes the Victory in Tol Barad weekly quest, which provides you with good drops. Here are the rewards for both factions:

  • Victory in Tol Barad: Rewards 9 Gold, 40 Silver, 200 Honor Points, 3 Commendations, and 69,400 EXP

Baradin Hold Entrance, Bosses, and Rewards

Once your Faction controls the zone, you can finally enter the Baradin Hold dungeon. The entrance is in the center of the zone. You can find the entrance at 46, 48. Baradin Hold features a lot of promising rewards both for PvP and PvE. After entering the raid, you will face three bosses to complete the whole run, each in three wings. Here are all the bosses you will be fighting in Baradin Hold:

  • Argaloth
  • Occu’thar
  • Alizabal, Mistress of Hate

Each boss can be fought as a 10-man or 25-man party. The former will feature significantly less HP, so if you want a quick fight, go for the 10-man groups. It’s recommended to be at least level 85 before fighting, either.

Each boss has a chance to drop certain hand and leg items, but for specific tiers. Argaloth will reward players withTier 11 Hand and Leg Items. while Occu’thar drops Tier 12, and Alizabal with Tier 13 . If you are looking for specific PvP sets, then here is the loot table and their corresponding boss fight:

  • Vicious Gladiator PvP set from Argaloth
  • Ruthless Gladiator PvP set from Occu’thar
  • Seasonal PvP gear from Alizabal
