Healing overall is in a great spot in WoW WotLK Classic; every specialization has something they are very good at. The Holy Paladin spec has great tank healing. Restoration Druids are very good with healing over-time buffs, Discipline Priests are solid in a raid environment, Restoration Shamans still have one of the best if not the best AOE healing, and Holy Priest may not be better than the other healing specs, but they are still a viable choice. For players trying to figure out what the best WotLK Classic healer is, this guide is for you.
Remember that during WoW WotLK Classic, the very first healing legendary was introduced. Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings, is the go-to weapon for almost every healing specialization. Holy Paladins, Restoration Druids, and Restorations Shamans make the out of it.
There is no better time to be a Holy Paladin main than during WotLK Classic. Holy Paladins are without a doubt the most potent healer in the game, having access to talents that massively increase the power of Holy Light, forgetting about mana issues thanks to Divine Plea, and constantly using Sacred Shield to boost tanks' survivability with an absorption shield and do not forget about Beacon of Light, which is an excellent tool for healing multiple targets.
Being the best healer in raw healing is already pretty good but remember that you still have tools like Aura Mastery and Lay on Hands, which can be buffed via the talent tree. Once you acquire the legendary weapon Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings, you will be topping the healing meters without much effort and will be loved by every single tank player in the game, which comes in handy from time to time.
During Wrath of the Lich King Classic, tides are turning in your favor if you are a Discipline Priest main, you are in the top 3 healing specs of the game, and it is all thanks to some new abilities and talents that make your healing top the meters.
Penance, Borrowed Time, Soul Warding, and Divine Aegis are among the abilities that make this spec so good at healing. You can prevent damage spamming shield on everyone thanks to Soul Warding, Divine Aegis allows you to leave a small shield on the target every time your healing abilities get a critical strike, Penance is very good at single target healing, and Borrowed Time gives 25% haste to the next spell you cast after casting Power Word: Shield.
While those abilities are pretty cool and allow you to compete in the healing meters, you still have utilities like Power Infusion, Pain Suppression, and Rapture to help the raid or the group, being Rapture one of the best tools to restore resources to the other players. The only bad thing about Discipline Priests is that they do not get that much of a benefit from the legendary healing weapon Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings.
As a Restoration Druid main you will be happy to know that class design is still one of the best among all healing specializations. This class is among the top three healers, and it is as fun to play as it was in previous game expansions. Now you have access to new abilities that only make the class feel better, like Wild Growth, Nourish and Revitalize.
AoE healing for Restoration Druids feels in a really good spot, especially once you have access to the legendary weapon Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings; the weapon effect and Wild Growth have a lot of synergies when paired together. However, not everything is good for Restoration Druids; they did receive a big change on Lifebloom, which sadly was more a nerf than a buff, but don’t worry, you still have a raid spot guaranteed in your raid or dungeons group, especially for AoE heavy encounters.
If you are a Restoration Shaman main, you should be somewhat upset with all the changes received, you got a bit unlucky when it comes to nerfs, and the class is not as unique as it once was. All your totem’s effects can be obtained by having other classes in the group
They are still in a somewhat lovely spot as a healer, especially with the synergy between Chain Heal and Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings. Riptide is the most noticeable change in your talent tree, and it grants you an instant cast healing spell that can help you in tight situations that buffs your next Chain Heal cast and leaves a small healing over-time effect on your target.
Remember that your Bloodlust/Heroism buff now is a group-wide buff, so you should still have a spot guaranteed in your raid group. Put your Chain Heal spell in a comfortable key-bind, you will be using it a lot.
You got the short end of the stick if you are a Holy Priest main. Blizzard had no compassion when making changed to this healer. Now you are a shadow of the healer you once were.
After all of the nerf received, Holy Priest is surprisingly still a viable healer, you will shine in some encounters, specially AoE heavy encounters that will require a lot of instant healing; at least they got that going for them.
Surprisingly, Holy Priests benefit greatly from using Val’anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings. They do get a lot of procs, sadly this healer specialization doesn’t provide anything that other healers do, and in a much better way, if you want to commit to this spec, you have to be patient and have a lot of free time because you will be looking for group constantly.
Enjoy Healing in WotLK Classic
In conclusion, every healer specialization is friendly and fun to play with, you can do any type of PvE content without much trouble, but some specs just outshine the rest regarding performance. That’s right, Holy Paladins, we are talking about you. We hope this WotLK Classic Best Healer Guide was helpful!
