Palworld’s Tides of Terraria update brings a new mechanic to the game: Fishing. Aside from befriending Pals through the standard means, players can now fish to get Pals and also get items. Since fishing is a new mechanic in the game, here’s a guide to help you be efficient with the new system in Palworld Tides of Terraria.
How to Get a Fishing Rod
Before you go on your fishing adventures, you should craft a fishing rod. Crafting it is straightforward; use a High-Quality Workbench, or you can use an advanced one. There are other fishing rods you can craft, such as the Intermediate Fishing Rod, through the Production Assembly line; the guide will also show crafting recipes for them.
To get your first Beginner Fishing Rod, you need the following materials:
- 10 Paldium Fragment
- 2 Pal Fluids
- 8 Ingots
- 8 Fiber
Here’s what you need to craft an Intermediate Fishing Rod:
- 30 Paldium fragments
- 10 High Quality Pal Oil
- 10 Cement
- 30 Fiber

How to Craft Bait
Crafting bait in Palworld is easy since there’s only one type of bait you can craft. There are other baits you can craft using advanced workbenches; the guide will also include their recipes. Here’s how you can craft and make plenty of bait for your fishing trips.
Here are the materials you need to craft Simple Bait:

How to Fish in Palworld Tides of Terraria
Now that you’ve crafted your fishing rod and bait, here’s a guide on how to fish in Palworld Tides of Terraria.
To start fishing, you need to locate any bodies of water that have shadows of fish. The shadows can appear in any body of water across the region. Once you’ve found a spot you like, you can press the Cast Button to cast the line into the water. It will automatically consume one bait you have in your inventory.
Once the line has been cast, you’ll need to wait for 2 exclamation marks to appear. You need to press the same button used for Casting to reel in the Pal. Doing so triggers a minigame where you need to fill a progress bar by keeping the fish icon inside a green bar, similar to a well-known farming game with star dew in their valley. You can control the green bar by holding and releasing the Pull Lure Button. The size of the bar will vary depending on the bait you use.
A circle bar will pop up once you start playing the minigame. Once the bar is filled by keeping the fish icon in the green bar, you’ve caught your Pal. The Pals you get are random, but you can determine which type of Pal you get based on the Shadow. Here’s a guide on the Shadows you can encounter in bodies of water.
- Normal Shadow: Any Random Pal
- Shadow with Purple Particles: A chance to get an Alpha Pal
- Shadow with Green Particles: Random Pal with a chance to get a Rainbow Passive
- Shadow with Purple Particles and Glow: A chance to get an Alpha Pal with Rainbow Passive
Aside from fishing in bodies of water across the region, you can build a fishing pond to fish in the comfort of your home. The bigger the fishing pond, the better the opportunity to catch larger Pals.
Here are the materials you need to build a fishing pond.
- 40 Wood
- 5 Cement
- 10 Pal Fluids
Large Fishing Pond
- 60 Wood
- 20 Stone
- 10 Plasteel
- 20 High-Quality Pal Oil
Now that you know how to fish, you can start your fishing trips with your Pals and see who else you can add to your roster in the Tides of Terraria update.
