About Dragon Equipment
Despite the name, Dragon Equipment isn’t made from dragon parts (except for javelins, arrows, and bolts). Orikalkum makes up most of the equipment’s structure, instead. It got the name from its original creators, the Dragonkin.
Long ago, they were bound by Jas to guard the Stone of Jas. That led them to get ‘cursed’ and feel pain whenever someone uses the stone. This also split the race into two factions, one that succumbed to the curse (Necrosyrtes) and the other trying to lift it (Dactyl).
When Kethisians misused the stone, it caused the slaughter of Necrosyrtes and Kethisians both. However, not all dragonkin succumbed to the curse. Zorgoth went around the world, trying experiments to find a way to lift it. He had made laboratories in Crandor, Ungael, and Lithkren. With their race near extinction and the fact that they cannot reproduce, they created dragons. These dragons are of their lineage despite not being born of them directly.
Zulrah and the Great Olm are possible results of this experimentation. There are also some pockets of wyverns and other drakes in other locations from failed experiments.
At any rate, Zorgoth gets trapped in his Lithkren laboratory. Due to the Necrosyrtes attacking human settlements, humans were unwilling to distinguish between the two dragonkin factions. That resulted in the key to his lab getting broken into four pieces and scattered across Gielinor.
During the Dragon Slayer II quest, the player finds these pieces and reforges the key. Zorgoth gets free at long last, but all traces of his peaceful disposition had gone. A burning hatred for all humans replaced it, and so unleashed his greatest creation, Galvek upon the player and their companions. Along with that, several nations rose up to fight a draconic force gathering in Ungael. After a long fight, both are defeated but not without cost.
In the present time, all that’s left of them are various writings and whatever Zorgoth left behind. There are also various draconic species found around Gielinor. Then there’s also Dragon Equipment.
Dragon Armor consists of six parts and has variations. A dragon chestplate can either be a chainbody or platebody, for example. Here are the parts and variations:
- Dragon Helm (Med, Full)
- Dragon Gloves
- Dragon Platebody/Chainbody
- Dragon Defender (Sq Shield, Kiteshield)
- Dragon Plateskirt (Platelegs)
- Dragon Boots
There are 17 conventional dragon weapons. Add some ammunition and throwing weapons, and it makes a total of 23.
- Dragon Dagger
- Dragon Harpoon
- Dragon Axe
- Dragon Pickaxe
- Dragon Cane
- Dragon Mace
- Dragon Hasta
- Dragon Sword
- Dragon Scimitar
- Dragon Longsword

- Dragon Knife
- Dragon Thrownaxe
- Dragon Arrow

- Dragon Javelin
For mid-level players, Dragon Equipment is one of the best armors and weapons to acquire. It provides decent defense, though Barrows equipment beats it in that regard. Weapons are strong for their level, and require 60 Attack or Ranged to use. There’s a quest to unlock the use of these weapons, but they’re quite easy to complete. Players cannot smith the armor nor the weapons. They must acquire it as a drop from enemies or rewards from quests or treasure trails. Some vendors also sell some of these weapons and armor.
Players may use Ornamental Kits on some of them, changing their look. The following allow this process:
- Dragon Defender
- Dragon Full Helm
- Dragon Platebody
- Dragon Chainbody
- Dragon Platelegs
- Dragon Plateskirt
- Dragon Boots
- Dragon Kiteshield
- Dragon Sq Shield
- Dragon Scimitar
- Dragon Pickaxe
- Dragon Axe
- Dragon Harpoon
This adds yellow highlights to the equipment. Others might get a completely different form. It is a purely cosmetic change and will not affect the item’s boosts or strengths. That said, it’s the player’s choice whether to do so or not.
Some players decide to take the player-to-player trading route as an option to get these weapons and armor from online sellers. People who are considering doing so should read up on OSRS’s policies and rules about trading to get all the information they need to make a decision as to whether they would like to continue.
