In New World: Aeternum, the Fire Staff could potentially output some serious AoE magic DPS, melting even the tankiest of targets in PvP while bursting down bosses in PvE. You may have to put in the work to make the Fire Staff pop off, but once it reaches its power spike, you could see some amazing damage numbers. This build guide will help you attain the Fire Staff’s full power.
The best stat allocation for this build is 150 Constitution, 25 Focus, and 350 Intelligence for optimal damage with your weapons.
Fire Mage Skill Tree
While leveling up the Fire Staff, these skills will be applying lots of Smolder DoTs on top of your superb direct damage skills. Once you have the skill points, invest them in the following nodes for maximum damage:
- Fireball
- Scorched Earth
- Catch
- Spell Focus
- Firey Restoration
- Pillar of Fire
- Spellslinger
- Singe
- Prophet of a Fire God
- Strike The Match
- Arson’s Advantage
- Runes of Helios
- Pyromania
- Flamethrower
- Fire’s Reach
- Kindle
- Infernal Flames
- Pyro Dancer
- Watch It Burn
The core purpose of this build is to get as many critical hits and damage buffs to your Fire Staff as possible while maintaining your Mana upkeep for casting more Fire spells. Fireball, Pillar of Flame, and Flamethrower are all your bread-and-butter damage skills with passives that help alleviate their mana costs whenever you land them. While the first two spells are ideal for AoE damage, Flamethrower will be your most consistent single-target damage option.
Secondary Weapon: Ice Gauntlet
The Fire Staff is a great core weapon, but New World gives you a second weapon slot. This is best filled by the Ice Gauntlet archetype, which has a couple of utility spells that can keep you in the fight and keep enemies away. As always, here are the perks you should take for the Ice Gauntlet:
- Cold Reach
- Critical Rejuvenation
- Ice Storm
- Ice Shower
- Blocking Stamina
- Quick Frost
- Enduring Shower
- Entombed
- Quick Shower
- Refreshing Frost
- Strengthened Tomb
- Frigid Showers
- Defiant Freeze
- Cleansing Tomb
- Weakening Gust
- Storm Summoner
- Punishing Storm
- Critical Frost
Ice Storm and Ice Shower are your main sources of crowd control with their built-in slows and roots. Entombed is your emergency panic button for when you’re taking too much heat from enemy groups, making you invulnerable while receiving extra mana regen.
These two weapons combined make for one of the most oppressive playstyles in PvP while being a DPS machine in PvE.
Gear Perks, Gems and Heartrunes
The first set of perks that you should unlock is either Refreshing Pillar of Fire or Empowering Fireball to make the most out of your damage. Afterward, take Flame Attunement and Keen on your weapon for even more critical hit chance and Fire damage; and Refreshing and Elemental Aversion for the extra bump in CDR and magic resist. For the amulet slot, take Health since it’s the best general perk option. Lastly, take Keen Awareness for even more crit chance.
For your Gem slot, the Runeglass of Ignited Opal or Runeglass of Ignited Diamond are great choices, as the boosts to your DoTs are much needed for this build. The latter gem should only be used if you’re certain that you won’t take any damage in an encounter since its damage boost only works while you’re at full health.
Lastly, the Stalwart Heartrune of Stoneform is your last emergency option for when all your CC and health sustain options are exhausted, as its ability keeps you invulnerable for a short duration while recovering your health.
