Is Fallout 76 Cross Platform? Crossplay Compatible?

Fallout 76 is a social experience of surviving the Appalachian Wasteland with other players, but it's especially fun with friends. Many players picking up the game are wondering if Fallout 76 has any crossplay functions. This is what we know about this feature for Fallout 76 and its future.

No Crossplay Between PC and Consoles

Unfortunately, FO76 currently lacks crossplay functionality for both platforms. This also will not work for consoles in different generations (i.e, PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.) Currently, Bethesda has no plans to integrate a crossplay feature for the game due to limitations with the game’s software, according to Todd Howard in an interview.

PC Cross-Client Compatibility

For PC players specifically, Fallout 76 does allow for both Steam players and Xbox Game Pass subscribers to play together. The restriction is based explicitly on consoles, but not for game clients, thus giving PC players slightly more room to play with friends.

No Cross-Saving or Cross-Progression

Fallout 76 character progression and accounts do not carry over from one console to another, effectively locking your account to your current platform of choice. Even for Xbox Game Pass subscribers using the same account on both Xbox and PC, progression is restricted to the platform on which the characters were made.
