Dungeonborne: Pyromancer Guide and Build

Pyromancers are the veritable glass cannons of Dungeonborne, eschewing defense in exchange for pure magical offense. Unlike its counterpart, the Cryomancer, this class is made for outputting damage in a variety of ways. Since the Pyromancer not only has the greatest magic ability, but is also the most vulnerable in combat, players will have to adapt with this class to become more seasoned. This article will talk about how to play Pyromancer and build them for maximum power.

Pyromancer Skills

The Pyromancer has two unique spells in its kit. The first is Pyroblast, which is a 2-stage spell that requires a short cast time. On the first stage, it fires 3 firebolts that track towards a target. On its second stage, it launches a massive fireball that will spread on the surface upon impact. Once this spell is complete, the Pyromancer will be able to levitate by pressing the jump key while midair. This feature requires a Staff or Orb to pull off.

The second skill is Fire Blast. This spell unleashes a ring of flames around the caster, which deals Fire damage while also knocking back enemies near them. Enemies hit by this spell are also temporarily slowed. This spell has no cast time and will not interrupt actions like melee attacks or opening chests.

These spells are powerful, as while they do deal good damage, their best feature is the utilities that they provide for you. Pyroblast is a highly effective tool for finishing off fleeing enemies, as the first stage of this spell will track targets that are fleeing from you. Meanwhile, Fire Blast can be very oppressive for enemy melee players, as the ring of fire will keep them back if they get too close, while giving you more than enough room to charge a spell from your staff. These spells are absolutely ideal for players who prefer keeping their distance and pressuring enemies with projectiles.

Pyromancer Passives

The Pyromancer’s passives all incentivize the generous use of your spells, providing bonuses for playing proficiently with the two skills.

  • Rekindle: At 42 Will, kills with Fire Blast will reset its cooldown timer.
  • Swift Casting: At 30 Dexterity, hitting an enemy with Fire Blast grants Swift Casting for 10 seconds. Swift Casting reduces the channeling time of your next Pyroblast by half.
  • Ignite: At 50 intelligence, Pyroblast and Fire Blast apply Ignite to enemy targets hit. Ignite inflicts fire damage over time.
  • Iris of Fire: At 87 Intelligence, convert a targeted fire source when using Fireball to create a Fire Eye that automatically attacks surrounding enemies and inflicts the Ignite effect.
  • Fire Shield: At 24 Stamina, gain a short-duration shield when using Fire Blast

Best Weapons for Pyromancers

Like the Cryomancer, this class can use Staves, Orbs, Swords, and Shields. The best weapon to pair with this class is the Fire Staff, as it has a powerful laser-like spell that can easily burst down enemies. This complements the already ranged-heavy playstyle of the Pyromancer, serving as a great offensive option in case both Pyroblast and Fire Blast are on cooldown. Of course, having a good sword and shield is the ideal backup weapon should you expend all your available resources.

Best Gear Affixes for Pyromancer

When looking for certain affixes, equip any gear that has any of these stats:

  • + Intelligence
  • + Will
  • + Stamina
  • Skill Damage
  • Skill Cooldown Reduction
  • Fire Penetration
  • Target’s Defense Ignored
  • Life Steal

These stats will further augment your spell casting with CDR, extra damage, and armor penetration, which is ideal against tougher targets.

How to Play Pyromancer in PvE and PvP

As with all the other caster classes, the Pyromancer is absolutely oppressive when playing with a few other players by your side. Since this class is extremely vulnerable in melee, having a teammate take the brunt of the action gives enough room to attack enemy players with your spells.

When it comes to PvE, you will have to play a bit more conservatively. Using your spells on weaker enemies like skeletons, goblins, and spiders is a complete waste of mana, since a few hits on the head, even with the starter sword, is enough to kill these enemies. This is why bringing a decent sword and shield to a dungeon run will save you the time to kill dungeon mobs.

However, if you built more for mana and have a couple of mana potions with you on a raid, using your Fire Staff for dungeon mobs would be more viable, as the Staff has a “reload” mechanic that uses your mana reserves to restore the Staff’s energy.

When it comes to PvP, this is where you pull out all the stops for your spell casting. Patience is crucial to your performance as a Pyromancer, as while Pyroblast has good tracking, it will absolutely terrain if you’re not careful or if your enemy reacts fast enough. Remember that you can pre-cast your spells while in cover so that by the time your enemy rounds the corner, you can launch your spell while leaving them little time to react.

In emergency situations, where a Fighter, Rogue or any melee-focused class closes the distance on you, this is the best time to cast Fireblast, as this will knock them back without needing to interrupt your own spell-casting animation.

In PvP, baiting your enemies into a false sense of security will give you more opportunities to damage them with your fire spells. The same goes for the element of surprise. Make sure you catch the enemy in an open area without much cover for them to hide.
