Diablo 4 Season 9 has added a new mechanic, Horadric Spells. The Sins of the Horadrim update introduces a highly customizable spell system. These spells are more complex, since three elements make up the customization. To help you understand how they work, here's a guide on Horadric Spells.

What are Horadric Spells
Horadric Spells function similarly to Boss and Witch Powers from previous seasons. It allows players to enhance their abilities using the borrowed power for this season. Horadric Spells are far more complex than previous mechanics; they rely on three elements, and when combined, they create more depth and customization to the spells. The three elements are Catalysts, Infusions, and Arcana. Here's what each one does and how they work.
- Catalysts: The base and primary source for Horadric Spells. It's activated with the use of a specific Action Bar determined by the Horadric Spell slot that it's assigned to. Catalysts get bonuses when they reach Rank 10.
- Infusions: They enhance the Catalyst with power and magic, which determines the damage type. Infusions get a bonus at Rank 5, which allows the Catalyst to deactivate enemy Affixes or Afflictions.
- Arcana: The modifiers for the Catalyst that come in three qualities: Magic, Rare, and Legendary. Each Arcana has a spell tag that can offer playstyle customizations and interactions with Horadric Jewels.
Note: For Horadric Spells to work to their full potential, you'll need to use all three elements.
How to Get Horadric Spells
Horadric Spells are unlocked by their elements. Catalysts and Infusions can be unlocked by progressing through the Seasonal Questline for Sins of the Horadrim. Arcana can be obtained as rewards by exploring Nightmare Dungeons.
How to Use Horadric Spells
Here's how to use Horadric Spells in Diablo 4 Season 9. First, you'll need to equip a Catalyst in a Hotbar Slot. When you use the Hotbat Slot, the Catalyst will be activated.
Then apply an Infusion to change the damage type and add unique effects to the Catalyst. After choosing an Infusion, you can choose up to three Arcana to further customize the Horadric Spell. If you have Horadric Jewels, you can use them to empower your Horadric Spell.
How to Upgrade Horadric Spells
Aside from customizing your Horadric Spell, you can also upgrade it. You can access the upgrades through the Horadric Spellcraft menu. The upgrades will cost you Phials, and their price will increase depending on the rank. Here's a guide to the Horadric Spell Upgrade Cost.
